Tyler Liebel brings a wealth of experience in playing, coaching, and skill development to OHA Penticton. His hockey journey began in the BCHL with the Burnaby Bulldogs, where he earned Rookie of the Year honors in 1998โ99. From there, he secured a four-year scholarship to play NCAA Division 1 hockey at Colorado College (WCHA) before continuing his career with six seasons of professional hockey in the ECHL and CHL.
Alongside his playing career, Tyler has built a strong reputation as a coach and skill developer. He is the owner and operator of the Osoyoos Hockey Camp, which has helped athletes of all ages and skill levels grow their game. In 2010, he served as Head Coach of the Kamloops Storm (KIJHL), leading the team to the Cyclone Taylor Cup, where they earned a bronze medal. He then went on to serve as Assistant Coach with the Simon Fraser University menโs hockey team during the 2011โ12 season.
Since 2013, Tyler has been deeply involved in player development with organizations such as Ridge Meadows Hockey Association, West Kelowna Minor Hockey, the Hockey Canada Skills Program, and the Kelowna High Performance Pro Program, where he worked with athletes ranging from grassroots players to NHL professionals. Tyler is also one of our Head Coaches in our pro summer training program โThe Programโ in Kelownaโ MNP Arena.
Now in his second season with OHA Penticton, Tyler brings a coaching philosophy rooted in accountability, respect, hard work, and determinationโvalues he instills in every player he works with.
In addition to his work in hockey, Tyler serves his community as a full-time firefighter with the City of West Kelowna.
