2025 OHA Female Program Open House: A Successful Showcase for Young Athletes!
The 2025 OHA Female Program Open House and Showcase, held from April 3-5, 2025, in beautiful Penticton, BC, was an unforgettable experience for young female hockey players looking to develop their skills and explore collegiate opportunities. This action-packed weekend provided athletes with an inside look at life as a student-athlete at Okanagan Hockey Academy (OHA), while showcasing their talents to college coaches from USport and NCAA programs.
Event Highlights:
The weekend was filled with valuable learning and skill-building opportunities, including:
- OHA Information Session: Participants discovered the OHA experience, including academic programs and hockey development pathways that help players reach their full potential both on the ice and in the classroom.
- College Representation: Over 20 colleges attended the event, including prestigious programs from the NCAA, USports, ACHA, and ACAC providing players with significant exposure to a wide range of collegiate opportunities.
- College Coach Hot Stove: Athletes engaged with college coaches, asking questions and receiving advice on advancing their hockey careers to the collegiate level.
- On-Ice Skills Session: A dynamic on-ice session allowed participants to refine their skills, guided by OHAβs professional coaches and collegiate-level expertise.
- Strength and Conditioning Session: Led by OHAβs Head of Strength and Conditioning, Paul Bisnauth, this session focused on enhancing athletic performance while minimizing injury risks through evidence-based training.
- Dedicated Goalie Ice Session: Goaltenders received specialized training from OHAβs Head Goalie Instructor, Lucas Gore, with a focus on refining their skills between the pipes.
- 2x Showcase Games: Athletes competed in two full showcase games, putting their skills on display for OHA coaches and college scouts, receiving real-time feedback and guidance.
- Small Area Games Ice Session: Players participated in small area games to develop key hockey skills and essential game-play concepts.
- School Tour: Participants had the opportunity to tour the OHA Penticton campus, exploring the academic programs available and learning how OHA helps student-athletes balance their education and athletic commitments.
