At Okanagan Hockey Academy (OHA) Penticton, we believe success on the ice starts with a strong support system off the ice—and that includes the incredible families in our community who open their homes to our student-athletes. We are currently welcoming new local families to join our billet program for the upcoming hockey season.
What Is Billeting?
Billeting provides student-athletes from across Canada and around the world with a safe, structured, and caring environment while they train and study in Penticton. Billet families are much more than hosts—they become mentors, role models, and extended family, helping athletes thrive in all aspects of life.
Why Become a Billet Family?
By opening your home to an OHA student-athlete, you’re playing a direct role in their journey—offering support, encouragement, and guidance during a formative time in their lives. Whether it’s sharing a meal, celebrating their wins, or providing reassurance after a tough loss, the impact you make lasts far beyond a single season.
Our billet program is led by Garth Astles, Coordinator of Residential Life, who works closely with both billet families and student-athletes to ensure a positive and respectful fit.

Every billet home is carefully screened through home visits, interviews, and background checks to ensure a secure and welcoming space. - Nutritional Support
Billet families provide well-balanced, home-cooked meals to meet the nutritional needs of our high-performance athletes. - Life Skills & Responsibility
Athletes are expected to contribute to household chores, practice independence, and respect the rules of the home. - Open Communication & Support
Garth Astles stays in regular contact with families and student-athletes to ensure everything runs smoothly.
