At the Okanagan Hockey Academy (OHA), our mission is to promote the long-term development of every athlete in the classroom, on the ice, and in the community. Facilities
The Okanagan Hockey Training Centre, part of the $90 million South Okanagan Events Centre, is a state-of-the-art facility tailored for our student-athletes. The centre includes:
- Three NHL-sized ice surfaces
- Private Academy locker rooms
- Athletic therapy rooms
- A fully equipped classroom with video editing tools
- An off-campus Skill Centre
- A 5,000-square-foot performance centre with cutting-edge training equipment
Hockey Program
On-Ice Development
OHA offers male teams at the U15, U17, and U18 levels, as well as two U18 female teams. Competing in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) and attending high-profile tournaments, our athletes benefit from purposeful training. Practices are designed to enhance individual skills through tactical and technical teaching, empowering athletes to perform at the highest level.

Physical Preparation
Physical readiness is essential for long-term success. With a professional Strength and Conditioning Coach and dedicated Athletic Therapists, we create individualized programs that maximize each athlete’s potential. Regular testing ensures tailored progress, addressing flexibility, mobility, injury prevention, and rehabilitation. Our in-house medical staff provides comprehensive care, ensuring every athlete’s health and growth are prioritized.
Exposure and Placement
OHA is a leader in player advancement, with a proven track record of placing athletes in Junior A, WHL, and NCAA programs. Our coaching staffโs diverse professional experiences and extensive network open doors to numerous opportunities. We offer impartial guidance to families, ensuring they make informed decisions about their athleteโs future.
Academic Support
Partnering with Penticton Secondary School, we provide a balanced schedule that accommodates both academics and training. Athletes attend school from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., focusing on core classes before transitioning to hockey development.
A weekly mandatory study hall, led by Pen High dedicated teachers under the guidance of Academic Advisor, Dave Nackoney, ensures students manage their workload while preparing for SATs, ACTs, and NCAA Clearinghouse requirements. Education remains a cornerstone of the OHA experience.
Home Life
For athletes requiring accommodations, our billeting program connects students with local families who provide a nurturing โhome away from home.โ Overseen by Garth Astles, our Coordinator of Residential Life, this program ensures compatibility and fosters lifelong bonds. Families offer meals, transportation, and support, enabling athletes to thrive in a safe and welcoming environment.
